Direct answer

There is no responsible universal sample price or lead time. Ask for a written breakdown of pattern work, materials, custom print or hardware, included revisions, courier cost and the event that starts the sample schedule.

Define the sample type

A development sample, fit sample, color sample and pre-production sample answer different questions. Paying for the right sample is more useful than asking for one sample to prove everything.

Resolve material availability

Stock fabric can shorten the first round; custom dye, print, hardware and branded trim add approval steps. Mark any temporary substitute clearly.

Control revisions

Agree what counts as a correction and what counts as a buyer-led design change. Send one consolidated, versioned feedback document after each review.

Plan physical review and freight

Photos are useful for appearance, but fit, recovery and hand feel normally need a physical sample. Include courier time, duties and internal approval time in the calendar.
