Direct answer

FOB usually gives the buyer more control after the named port; DDP places more delivery responsibility with the seller. Compare the exact named place, exclusions, importer role, duty, tax and shipment risk under current Incoterms wording.

Use a named place

FOB Shanghai and DDP your warehouse are not complete comparisons unless the named point and included services are explicit. Avoid treating an acronym as the whole commercial term.

Identify the importer

Confirm who is importer of record, who provides customs data and who carries duty, tax and compliance responsibility. This is especially important in a DDP proposal.

Calculate the landed scope

Include export handling, freight, insurance, destination charges, broker fees, duty, tax and final delivery. Add the cost of delay and inventory exposure where material.

Check control and visibility

A buyer-managed forwarder can provide more routing visibility; a seller-managed route can reduce coordination. Choose the trade-off your team can manage.
